Carrier WSHP Open v3 BACnet points list

Updated 28 October 2026

Short answer

WSHP Open is the multi-protocol controller on Carrier water-source heat pumps. DIP switches select BACnet MS/TP (the default), BACnet ARC156, Modbus or N2, and a LonWorks option card is available. The device instance is built from Carrier's vendor ID (16) and the rotary address. Points cover setpoints, space and water temperatures, fan and compressor status, waterside economizer, alarms and the 'system' points a BAS writes in place of local sensors.

This page lists 83 BACnet objects for the Carrier WSHP Open v3 — 30 of them writable — with each object’s type, instance number, name, engineering units and access. It is re-typed from Carrier’s own free documentation, linked below.

BMS integration notes: Carrier WSHP Open v3

Integration in brief

Set the WSHP Open for BACnet MS/TP with its DIP switches and rotary address. Disable the local Occupancy Schedules so the BAS can command occupancy through keypad_ovrde, then write setpoints directly. Space temperature, humidity, CO2 and OAT from the BMS go into the system_* points at priority 16 and have to be refreshed within each point's window.

Minimum points to map

The short list most integrators start with — enough to run the unit from a BMS. Map more as the job needs.

Enable & remote start

The unit runs occupied 24/7 until a schedule or the BAS takes over. Disable Occupancy Schedules (Configuration > Unit Configuration) so the BAS can control it, then write BAS On/Off keypad_ovrde (MSV:1001): 1=Inactive, 2=Occupied, 3=Unoccupied. Shutdown (BV:9001) = Active stops the unit in a controlled way; when it returns to Inactive the unit restarts after the power fail restart delay. Cool Enable (BV:1011) and Heat Enable (BV:1012) lock out cooling or heating.

Heartbeat & communication loss

No general heartbeat. Each system point is only used while it is refreshed within its window: space temperature 1 min / 5 min, RH and CO2 5 min / 10 min, OAT 5 min / 60 min. A network OAT that stops updating raises the Outdoor Air Temp Sensor alarm (oat_fail, BV:7029) after about an hour.

Sensors & values from the BMS

Write system_spt (AV:1902), system_rh (AV:1904), system_iaq (AV:1903), system_oat (AV:1901) and system_stpt_adj (AV:1913) at BACnet priority 16, no more than once a minute. A network value overrides the local sensor while it is refreshed in time. The controller clears a system point after processing it, so read the matching control point instead (space_temp, space_rh, iaq, oa_temp) at least 30 s after the write.

Integration notes

Check it against the live device. A points list tells you what the controller can expose; the unit in front of you may differ by firmware or installed options. Easy BACnet scans a network for BACnet IP devices from an Android phone, reads every object on the WSHP Open v3 and exports what it actually has to Excel — free. New to BACnet? Start with what a BACnet points list is and what the object types mean.

Questions about the Carrier WSHP Open v3

How many BACnet points does the Carrier WSHP Open v3 have?

This list has 83 BACnet objects: 46 analog values, 31 binary values, 6 multi-state values. The exact set on a given unit depends on its firmware, installed options and configuration.

Which Carrier WSHP Open v3 BACnet points are writable?

30 of the 83 objects accept a write. Points marked Command have a priority array: a write holds until it is released, so release it back to automatic when you are done.

Where is the official Carrier WSHP Open v3 BACnet documentation?

The source is WSHP Open v3 Integration Guide (Appendix A: Network Points List) (11-808-539-01), revision 2021-06-15, published free by Carrier at https://www.shareddocs.com/hvac/docs/1000/Public/04/11-808-539-01.pdf.

What are the minimum BACnet points to integrate the Carrier WSHP Open v3?

Start with MV 1001 keypad_ovrde (BAS occupancy command: occupied/unoccupied); BV 9001 shutdown (Network shutdown command); AV 3001 occ_cl_stpt (Occupied cooling setpoint); AV 3002 occ_ht_stpt (Occupied heating setpoint); MV 2002 run_status (Current system mode); BV 2008 occ_status (Confirms occupied/unoccupied); AV 2007 space_temp (Space temperature the unit controls to); AV 1008 sa_temp (Supply air temperature); BV 7013 comp_alarm (Compressor failure alarm); BV 7028 overflow_alarm (Condensate overflow alarm; stops compressor and fan).

How do I enable BMS control of the Carrier WSHP Open v3?

Does the Carrier WSHP Open v3 need a BACnet heartbeat or have a communication timeout?

No general heartbeat. Each system point is only used while it is refreshed within its window: space temperature 1 min / 5 min, RH and CO2 5 min / 10 min, OAT 5 min / 60 min. A network OAT that stops updating raises the Outdoor Air Temp Sensor alarm (oat_fail, BV:7029) after about an hour.

Can the BMS supply sensor values to the Carrier WSHP Open v3?

Write system_spt (AV:1902), system_rh (AV:1904), system_iaq (AV:1903), system_oat (AV:1901) and system_stpt_adj (AV:1913) at BACnet priority 16, no more than once a minute. A network value overrides the local sensor while it is refreshed in time. The controller clears a system point after processing it, so read the matching control point instead (space_temp, space_rh, iaq, oa_temp) at least 30 s after the write.

How do I check these points on the real WSHP Open v3?

Scan the network with a BACnet IP browser such as Easy BACnet, open the device and compare its object list with this table. Anything missing is usually an option that isn't installed or a point that is disabled in the controller's configuration.
