Melink Intelli-Hood IH4 Exhaust Fan / Auxiliary Airflow BACnet points list
Updated 28 October 2026
On a Melink Intelli-Hood 4 system every exhaust fan and auxiliary airflow (typically a make-up air unit) VFD appears as its own virtual BACnet IP device behind the System Controller. Each device has the same eight objects: run status, VFD fault, a fault reset, maximum frequency, commanded and actual speed, current and kWh. Fan speed is set by the Intelli-Hood from hood temperature and smoke, not by the BMS.
This page lists 8 BACnet objects for the Melink Intelli-Hood IH4 Exhaust Fan / Auxiliary Airflow — 1 of them writable — with each object’s type, instance number, name, engineering units and access. It is re-typed from Melink’s own free documentation, linked below.

BMS integration notes: Melink Intelli-Hood IH4 Exhaust Fan / Auxiliary Airflow
Read run status, actual speed and the VFD fault flag from each fan device; add the kWh counter for energy tracking. The BMS can only clear VFD faults (BV 2); speed and start/stop come from the Intelli-Hood.
Minimum points to map
The short list most integrators start with — enough to run the unit from a BMS. Map more as the job needs.
| Object | Name | Why | Access |
|---|---|---|---|
| BV 2 | Reset VFD Fault | Write Active to clear a VFD fault | Command |
| BV 0 | Operation Status | Fan running (Active) or stopped | Read |
| AV 2 | % Actual Speed | Speed reported by the VFD, % | Read |
| AV 1 | % Commanded Speed | Speed the Intelli-Hood is asking for, % | Read |
| AV 4 | Output Energy | VFD kWh counter (rolls over) | Read |
| BV 1 | Fault Active | VFD tripped or lost comms with the Intelli-Hood | Read |
Enable & remote start
No BACnet start/stop or speed command. Fans are started from the Touchpad, schedules or digital inputs; use the Virtual Input Module to do that over BACnet.
Network setup
- The System Controller is the main BACnet IP device (default Device ID 654000) and a virtual router (default DNET 654) for the fan, hood controller and virtual module devices; UDP port 47808.
- With BACnet Auto Number on (default), the virtual devices are numbered from 654001: exhaust fans and auxiliary airflows (sorted by name), then hood controllers, virtual output modules, virtual input modules.
- IP defaults to DHCP. BACnet runs on IPv4 or IPv6, not both; for IPv6 set IP Type to 'IPv4 & IPv6' and BACnet IP Type to IPv6 (multicast scope default ff05).
- Settings are on the Touchpad (System Controller configuration) or the web configurator at http://<controller IP>/ih4-configurator.
- Check each fan's Device ID on the Touchpad: Status > VFDs, then press the progress bar above the device name.
Watch out for
- Front ends that send Who-Is without routing only find the System Controller; run a network/router discovery, select the router with the Intelli-Hood DNET, then discover devices again.
- The DNET must be unique; another router or BBMD using 654 breaks access to the virtual devices.
- Clearing a VFD fault before the cause is fixed can damage the VFD, motor or fan.
- Putting BV 2 Reset VFD Fault Out of Service disables it; writes then do nothing.
- Output Energy rolls over on every VFD; poll it often enough to catch the rollover.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BVmin | 0 | Operation Status | Fan running or stopped | Read | Inactive = Stopped, Active = Running | |
| BVmin | 1 | Fault Active | VFD tripped or lost communication with the Intelli-Hood | Read | Inactive = No, Active = Yes | |

Integration notes
- The same object list repeats on every exhaust fan and auxiliary airflow device; only the Device ID differs.
- Output Current is not updated for System VFDs; Output Energy is not updated for System and Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 4/40 VFDs.
- Actual speed lags commanded speed during VFD ramp up and ramp down; that difference is normal.
- To get speed in Hz, multiply the % speed by Maximum Output Frequency (AV 0).
- A fan can be hidden from BACnet with its 'Active on BACnet' setting (default Yes for fans).
Check it against the live device. A points list tells you what the controller can expose; the unit in front of you may differ by firmware or installed options. Easy BACnet scans a network for BACnet IP devices from an Android phone, reads every object on the Intelli-Hood IH4 Exhaust Fan / Auxiliary Airflow and exports what it actually has to Excel — free. Questions about the Melink Intelli-Hood IH4 Exhaust Fan / Auxiliary Airflow
How many BACnet points does the Melink Intelli-Hood IH4 Exhaust Fan / Auxiliary Airflow have?
This list has 8 BACnet objects: 5 analog values, 3 binary values. The exact set on a given unit depends on its firmware, installed options and configuration.
Which Melink Intelli-Hood IH4 Exhaust Fan / Auxiliary Airflow BACnet points are writable?
1 of the 8 objects accept a write. Points marked Command have a priority array: a write holds until it is released, so release it back to automatic when you are done.
Where is the official Melink Intelli-Hood IH4 Exhaust Fan / Auxiliary Airflow BACnet documentation?
The source is Intelli-Hood BACnet Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS), revision Revision 250723 (PICS dated 07-18-2025), published free by Melink at https://melinkcorp.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/IH4_BACnet_PICS.pdf.
What are the minimum BACnet points to integrate the Melink Intelli-Hood IH4 Exhaust Fan / Auxiliary Airflow?
Start with BV 2 Reset VFD Fault (Write Active to clear a VFD fault); BV 0 Operation Status (Fan running (Active) or stopped); AV 2 % Actual Speed (Speed reported by the VFD, %); AV 1 % Commanded Speed (Speed the Intelli-Hood is asking for, %); AV 4 Output Energy (VFD kWh counter (rolls over)); BV 1 Fault Active (VFD tripped or lost comms with the Intelli-Hood).
How do I enable BMS control of the Melink Intelli-Hood IH4 Exhaust Fan / Auxiliary Airflow?
No BACnet start/stop or speed command. Fans are started from the Touchpad, schedules or digital inputs; use the Virtual Input Module to do that over BACnet.
How do I check these points on the real Intelli-Hood IH4 Exhaust Fan / Auxiliary Airflow?
Scan the network with a BACnet IP browser such as Easy BACnet, open the device and compare its object list with this table. Anything missing is usually an option that isn't installed or a point that is disabled in the controller's configuration.
