AERCO ECS and SmartPlate water heaters (ProtoNode RER) BACnet points list

Updated 28 October 2026

Short answer

The AERCO ProtoNode RER profile for four ECS/SmartPlate systems serves 7 analog values per heater on BACnet IP or BACnet MS/TP: control output, setpoint in use, a writable remote setpoint, outlet and feedback temperatures, an alarm bit field and flow rate.

This page lists 28 BACnet objects for the AERCO ECS and SmartPlate water heaters (ProtoNode RER) — 4 of them writable — with each object’s type, instance number, name, engineering units and access. It is re-typed from AERCO’s own free documentation, linked below.

BMS integration notes: AERCO ECS and SmartPlate water heaters (ProtoNode RER)

Integration in brief

Set S2 On (S0, S1, S3, A1 Off) for the BACnet profile with 4 ECS/SP systems, give the heaters addresses 29-32, and for remote setpoint set Rmt = SP and L-r = rmt on each heater. Then write 03-RmSetpt and read outlet temperature, control output and the alarm bit field.

Minimum points to map

The short list most integrators start with — enough to run the unit from a BMS. Map more as the job needs.

ObjectNameWhyAccess
AV 8103-RmSetptHeater 1 remote setpoint, 40-180 °FWrite
AV 8002-SetpointHeater 1 setpoint in use, °FRead
AV 8404-Outlet TempHeater 1 outlet temperature, °FRead
AV 1101-Cntl Output SignalHeater 1 control output, %Read
AV 8606-Over Temp AlarmHeater 1 alarm bits; bit 0-3 = alarm 1-4Read

Enable & remote start

For remote setpoint control set Rmt = SP and L-r = rmt on the heater, then write its 03-RmSetpt. There is no start/stop object.

Integration notes

Check it against the live device. A points list tells you what the controller can expose; the unit in front of you may differ by firmware or installed options. Easy BACnet scans a network for BACnet IP devices from an Android phone, reads every object on the ECS and SmartPlate water heaters (ProtoNode RER) and exports what it actually has to Excel — free. New to BACnet? Start with what a BACnet points list is and what the object types mean.

Questions about the AERCO ECS and SmartPlate water heaters (ProtoNode RER)

How many BACnet points does the AERCO ECS and SmartPlate water heaters (ProtoNode RER) have?

This list has 28 BACnet objects: 28 analog values. The exact set on a given unit depends on its firmware, installed options and configuration.

Which AERCO ECS and SmartPlate water heaters (ProtoNode RER) BACnet points are writable?

4 of the 28 objects accept a write. Points marked Command have a priority array: a write holds until it is released, so release it back to automatic when you are done.

Where is the official AERCO ECS and SmartPlate water heaters (ProtoNode RER) BACnet documentation?

The source is AERCO ProtoNode Gateway User Manual (ProtoNode-RER / ProtoNode-LER), GF-129 (OMM-0080_0H), revision 2014-11-06, published free by AERCO at https://www.aerco.com/dfsmedia/0533dbba17714b1ab581ab07a4cbb521/58249-source/637395359810000000/omm-0080-0h-gf-129-protonode-ler-rer-11-06-14.pdf.

What are the minimum BACnet points to integrate the AERCO ECS and SmartPlate water heaters (ProtoNode RER)?

Start with AV 81 03-RmSetpt (Heater 1 remote setpoint, 40-180 °F); AV 80 02-Setpoint (Heater 1 setpoint in use, °F); AV 84 04-Outlet Temp (Heater 1 outlet temperature, °F); AV 11 01-Cntl Output Signal (Heater 1 control output, %); AV 86 06-Over Temp Alarm (Heater 1 alarm bits; bit 0-3 = alarm 1-4).

How do I enable BMS control of the AERCO ECS and SmartPlate water heaters (ProtoNode RER)?

For remote setpoint control set Rmt = SP and L-r = rmt on the heater, then write its 03-RmSetpt. There is no start/stop object.

How do I check these points on the real ECS and SmartPlate water heaters (ProtoNode RER)?

Scan the network with a BACnet IP browser such as Easy BACnet, open the device and compare its object list with this table. Anything missing is usually an option that isn't installed or a point that is disabled in the controller's configuration.
