AAON VCB-X Controller BACnet points list

Updated 28 October 2026

Short answer

The VCB-X is the Orion (WattMaster) unit controller used on AAON rooftop units and air handlers. It has an on-board BACnet MS/TP port and serves 51 read-only Analog Inputs (temperatures, humidity, pressures, airflow, setpoint mirrors, output signals, alarm bits), 73 writable Analog Values (setpoints, lockouts, offsets, calibration, fan and damper limits, BAS overrides) and 72 read-only Binary Inputs (enable status, individual alarms, relay status).

This page lists 196 BACnet objects for the AAON VCB-X Controller — 73 of them writable — with each object’s type, instance number, name, engineering units and access. It is re-typed from AAON’s own free documentation, linked below.

BMS integration notes: AAON VCB-X Controller

Integration in brief

Wire the on-board MS/TP port and set MAC address, device ID and baud on the controller's LCD BACnet screens. Schedule the unit from the BAS with AV 62 Schedule Force, adjust the occupied heating/cooling and supply-air setpoints, and read HVAC mode, control status, temperatures and the alarm BIs. AV 63-65 force the mode, fan speed or OA damper; write Auto to hand control back.

Minimum points to map

The short list most integrators start with — enough to run the unit from a BMS. Map more as the job needs.

Enable & remote start

Occupancy comes from AV 62 Schedule Force (0 = follow the controller's schedule, 1 = forced occupied, 2 = forced unoccupied). AV 63 HVAC Mode Override, AV 64 Fan VFD Override and AV 65 Outdoor Air Damper Override force operation; writing Auto (0 for the mode override, 65535 for fan and damper) returns control to the unit.

Sensors & values from the BMS

Not supported: the guide states sensor inputs can't be written over BACnet.

Integration notes

Check it against the live device. A points list tells you what the controller can expose; the unit in front of you may differ by firmware or installed options. Easy BACnet scans a network for BACnet IP devices from an Android phone, reads every object on the VCB-X Controller and exports what it actually has to Excel — free. New to BACnet? Start with what a BACnet points list is and what the object types mean.

Questions about the AAON VCB-X Controller

How many BACnet points does the AAON VCB-X Controller have?

This list has 196 BACnet objects: 51 analog inputs, 73 analog values, 72 binary inputs. The exact set on a given unit depends on its firmware, installed options and configuration.

Which AAON VCB-X Controller BACnet points are writable?

73 of the 196 objects accept a write. Points marked Command have a priority array: a write holds until it is released, so release it back to automatic when you are done.

Where is the official AAON VCB-X Controller BACnet documentation?

The source is VCB-X Controller Field Technical Guide (Appendix C - VCB-X BACnet) (OR-VCBX-FIELD-TGD-01X), revision February 2018 (copyright date), published free by AAON at https://www.aaon.com/hubfs/Controls%20Literature/OR-VCBX-FIELD-TGD-01X.pdf.

What are the minimum BACnet points to integrate the AAON VCB-X Controller?

Start with AV 62 Schedule Force (0 Auto, 1 forced occupied, 2 forced unoccupied); AV 1 Occupied Cooling Setpoint (Cooling starts one degree above this); AV 2 Occupied Heating Setpoint (Heating starts one degree below this); AV 10 Supply Air Cooling Setpoint (Discharge air temp target in cooling); AI 3 Control Status (Current occupancy status); AI 4 HVAC Mode (Off, vent, cool, heat, dehum, defrost and other modes); AI 5 Control Temperature (Reading from the configured control sensor); AI 7 Supply Air Temperature (Discharge air temp leaving the unit); AI 40 Alarm Status (Bit-coded summary of active alarms).

How do I enable BMS control of the AAON VCB-X Controller?

Occupancy comes from AV 62 Schedule Force (0 = follow the controller's schedule, 1 = forced occupied, 2 = forced unoccupied). AV 63 HVAC Mode Override, AV 64 Fan VFD Override and AV 65 Outdoor Air Damper Override force operation; writing Auto (0 for the mode override, 65535 for fan and damper) returns control to the unit.

Can the BMS supply sensor values to the AAON VCB-X Controller?

Not supported: the guide states sensor inputs can't be written over BACnet.

How do I check these points on the real VCB-X Controller?

Scan the network with a BACnet IP browser such as Easy BACnet, open the device and compare its object list with this table. Anything missing is usually an option that isn't installed or a point that is disabled in the controller's configuration.
