Grundfos CIM 300 / CIM 500 BACnet (pumps) BACnet points list

Updated 28 October 2026

Short answer

The CIM 300 add-on module (or CIU 300 box) gives Grundfos electronic pumps a BACnet MS/TP interface; the CIM 500 does the same over BACnet IP. The pump functional profile is a fixed object list: status binary inputs, command binary outputs, multistate objects for control and operating mode, analog inputs for measured values and counters, analog outputs for setpoint and flow limit, and analog values for module configuration. Many points depend on pump family, MGE motor model (G, H or later) and fitted sensors.

This page lists 105 BACnet objects for the Grundfos CIM 300 / CIM 500 BACnet (pumps) — 21 of them writable — with each object’s type, instance number, name, engineering units and access. It is re-typed from Grundfos’s own free documentation, linked below.

BMS integration notes: Grundfos CIM 300 / CIM 500 BACnet (pumps)

Integration in brief

Set the control mode (MO 0), operating mode (MO 1) and setpoint (AO 0) first, then take control by writing BO 0 = 1 (bus control). Set AV 1 so the pump drops back to its local settings if BACnet goes quiet. Read status from the BI, MI and AI objects, and reset faults with BO 4.

Minimum points to map

The short list most integrators start with — enough to run the unit from a BMS. Map more as the job needs.

ObjectNameWhyAccess
BO 0Set control sourceTakes bus control (1) or gives it back (0)Write
MO 1Set operating modeStart/stop: 1 = Start, 2 = StopWrite
MO 0Set control modeControl mode, e.g. constant or proportional pressureWrite
AO 0Set setpointSetpoint in % of range or nominal frequencyWrite
BO 4Reset faultResets an alarm on a 0-to-1 edge (bus control only)Write
BI 0Control source statusConfirms bus control; drops to local if the watchdog tripsRead
BI 2Rotation statusPump runningRead

AI 0Fault codeActive Grundfos alarm codeRead

Enable & remote start

Write the desired control mode (MO 0), operating mode (MO 1, 1 = Start, 2 = Stop) and setpoint (AO 0), then set BO 0 Set control source = 1 for bus control. BI 0 and MI 14 show the active control source. Relay, reset and simulation commands only act while bus control is on.

Heartbeat & communication loss

AV 1 BACnet watchdog: 0 = disabled (default), or 5-3600 s. If no BACnet traffic is seen for that time while in bus control, the pump switches to local control and uses its local settings. After comms return the BAS must set BO 0 back to 1. Make the local settings first (Grundfos GO or PC Tool).

Sensors & values from the BMS

AV 12 Remote sensor feedback lets the BAS send the sensor value (0-100 %) to MAGNA3 and MGE model H and later pumps.

Integration notes

Check it against the live device. A points list tells you what the controller can expose; the unit in front of you may differ by firmware or installed options. Easy BACnet scans a network for BACnet IP devices from an Android phone, reads every object on the CIM 300 / CIM 500 BACnet (pumps) and exports what it actually has to Excel — free. New to BACnet? Start with what a BACnet points list is and what the object types mean.

Questions about the Grundfos CIM 300 / CIM 500 BACnet (pumps)

How many BACnet points does the Grundfos CIM 300 / CIM 500 BACnet (pumps) have?

This list has 105 BACnet objects: 59 analog inputs, 2 analog outputs, 8 analog values, 19 binary inputs, 8 binary outputs, 6 multi-state inputs, 3 multi-state outputs. The exact set on a given unit depends on its firmware, installed options and configuration.

Which Grundfos CIM 300 / CIM 500 BACnet (pumps) BACnet points are writable?

21 of the 105 objects accept a write. Points marked Command have a priority array: a write holds until it is released, so release it back to automatic when you are done.

Where is the official Grundfos CIM 300 / CIM 500 BACnet (pumps) BACnet documentation?

The source is BACnet for Grundfos pumps, CIM/CIU 300 BACnet MS/TP, CIM/CIU 500 Ethernet for BACnet IP - Functional profile and user manual (97572650), revision 09.2025, published free by Grundfos at https://api.grundfos.com/literature/Grundfosliterature-6012933.pdf.

What are the minimum BACnet points to integrate the Grundfos CIM 300 / CIM 500 BACnet (pumps)?

Start with BO 0 Set control source (Takes bus control (1) or gives it back (0)); MO 1 Set operating mode (Start/stop: 1 = Start, 2 = Stop); MO 0 Set control mode (Control mode, e.g. constant or proportional pressure); AO 0 Set setpoint (Setpoint in % of range or nominal frequency); BO 4 Reset fault (Resets an alarm on a 0-to-1 edge (bus control only)); BI 0 Control source status (Confirms bus control; drops to local if the watchdog trips); BI 2 Rotation status (Pump running); AI 9 Actual setpoint (Setpoint actually in use); AI 0 Fault code (Active Grundfos alarm code).

How do I enable BMS control of the Grundfos CIM 300 / CIM 500 BACnet (pumps)?

Write the desired control mode (MO 0), operating mode (MO 1, 1 = Start, 2 = Stop) and setpoint (AO 0), then set BO 0 Set control source = 1 for bus control. BI 0 and MI 14 show the active control source. Relay, reset and simulation commands only act while bus control is on.

Does the Grundfos CIM 300 / CIM 500 BACnet (pumps) need a BACnet heartbeat or have a communication timeout?

AV 1 BACnet watchdog: 0 = disabled (default), or 5-3600 s. If no BACnet traffic is seen for that time while in bus control, the pump switches to local control and uses its local settings. After comms return the BAS must set BO 0 back to 1. Make the local settings first (Grundfos GO or PC Tool).

Can the BMS supply sensor values to the Grundfos CIM 300 / CIM 500 BACnet (pumps)?

AV 12 Remote sensor feedback lets the BAS send the sensor value (0-100 %) to MAGNA3 and MGE model H and later pumps.

How do I check these points on the real CIM 300 / CIM 500 BACnet (pumps)?

Scan the network with a BACnet IP browser such as Easy BACnet, open the device and compare its object list with this table. Anything missing is usually an option that isn't installed or a point that is disabled in the controller's configuration.
